Tipperary Town Green Hub initiative was officially launched by Cllr. Declan Burgess, Cathlaoireach of Tipperary Cahir Cashel MD in Ballykisteen Hotel Tipperary, on Wednesday 5th March.  Led by Tipperary County Council with the support of the Regional Waste Management Office the aim of the Green Hub initiative is to assist businesses in the hospitality sector to better manage their business waste.

The launch was attended by a number of businesses from Tipperary Town and surrounding areas with speakers from Southern Regional Waste Management Office, Tipperary County Council, Tipperary Green Business Network, Tipperary Local Enterprise Office and Tipperary ETB sharing their insights on sustainable business practices and information on training opportunities and resources available to businesses in Tipperary.

A recent EPA study showed that almost 70% waste found in commercial general waste bin could have been redirected to recycling or organic waste bins.  This is a huge loss of potentially recyclable materials and unnecessary waste going to landfill.  By joining the Green Hub initiative businesses could save costs through simple steps to improve their waste management practices.

  • Help businesses potentially reduce waste related costs
  • Improve recycling rates and divert unnecessary waste from landfill
